Eco-equation, Art You Can Plug Into108 viewsEco-equation is a new public sculpture located at 5111 Penn Avenue in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Garfield. The 16’ wide by 12’ tall installation will be completed on September 14, 2011.

This project is a Pittsburgh first, combining self sustaining energy design within the context of public art. The sculpture contains two low voltage electricity generating systems that provide power for it’s own power consumption needs. The sculpture harnesses both sun and wind energy which charge batteries by means of solar panels and functional wind turbine. The self generated power is used to energize LED lighting illuminating the sculpture at night from within. Symbols representing Sun + Wind = Light deliver a message in the form of a simple, yet self defining equation.
Eco-equation, self-illuminating solar and wind harnessing public art.116 viewsThe sculpture at night. It turns on at night with sun and wind stored battery power that power internal LED low voltage lighting. A public art example of "off the grid power" generation and use for it's own lighting needs. They helped with the designing and landscaping of the project. The URA, The Bloomfield Garfield Corporation and community organizations sponsored and helped with creative project input.

Art Energy Design 101 viewsThe Power Flower is a 12' wind driven kinetic sculpture in the form of a potted sunflower. Sun and wind energy are collected with a wind turbine driven by spinning flower petals and photo voltaic solar film leaf surfaces. A 55 gallon rainwater collector serves as base and ballast. The flower provides DC power for laptops, phones or water pump features. The sculpture also powers colored LED lighting for dynamic night illumination. A weather-proof controller maintains safe power levels and timed programmable lighting. The sculpture is transportable and sets up easily for events and exhibitions. Our sculptures are created for use by city art festivals, botanical associations, schools and museums to complement their missions. We design, sell and implement both permanent eco-artworks and transportable designs and workshops.
